Diagnostic tests provide essential information by which our veterinarians can identify blood disorders, kidney and liver disease, diabetes, infection, cancer, thyroid disease and other hormonal problems.
Blood readings can be achieved within minutes using our in-house laboratory. This approach will maximise the chances of a successful outcome.
Our extensive laboratory provides fast and accurate information that is necessary for the well-being of your pet. Due to our modern in house diagnostic equipment, animals can receive appropriate treatment immediately after they arrive.
Blood biochemistry can be analysed to check for many diseases liver disease, kidney disease and diabetes mellitus. Blood haematology also analyses the different blood cells and the amount present within the sample giving indications of infection, anaemia and dehydration.
We can analyse the urine using a dipstick to check for the presence of substances such as glucose, ketones and protein. Secondly urine specific gravity is measured using a refractometer to check how dilute or concentrated the urine is. Examination of the urine under the microscope is also carried out to look for crystals and cells.
The microscope in practice is used to look at a variety of samples including blood, urine, hair, faeces and fine needle aspirate biopsies of various tissues and organs. Samples can be examined to look for ectoparasites such as fleas, mites and lice or to diagnose different types of bacterial or fungal infections.
Sometimes there are instances when we have to send off results to our external lab at IDEXX.. These samples are sent via a special courier which collects samples from the surgery every Mon-Fri afternoon. Your vet will contact you with the results once they have been analysed by the lab.
