At Tern vets we invested in the latest endoscopy equipment to enable us to perform minimally invasive investigations of the respiratory, gastrointestinal and urinary tract. Whereas previously we often needed to resort to surgery in order to retrieve foreign bodies or collect biopsies, endoscopy allows us to collect samples or remove objects without needing to put an animal through an operation.
Using flexible endoscopy, we can visualise the back of the mouth, the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum (part of the small intestines). With our smaller flexible bronchoscope, we can examine the larynx, trachea and bronchioles, collect biospies, retrieve foreign bodies and collect bronchoalveolar lavage fluid.
We believe in offering our clients a variety of options for the diagnosis and management of problems affecting their pets. We find that when given the choice, our clients often prefer to avoid putting their pets through surgery. Endoscopy or other forms of imaging often allow us to achieve a diagnosis without ever having to reach for the scalpel.
